I’ve just read this and think I vaguely understand! For us non scientists a very short summary of the hypothesis would help! When do you think it escaped and from which actual location, and do you think it escaped or it was a planned release for testing?

I’m a retired GP in the U.K. and am convinced my husband gave me, and one of our teenagers, covid last week of Nov/first week of Dec’19. He travels throughout Europe spending time in airport hotels with crews from all over the world. Someone he worked with was ill just before he became ill.

Accidental release from the WIV BSL4 in early October 2019, based on the cell phone report b/c it focuses on 2 Duke-NUS phones (Linfa & Dani) in the shutdown area.

Don't know about early spread in UK but pregnant women in Norway had Covid antibodies in Dec

Will do a summary b/c your the 3rd person to ask, but this lengthy thread was based on Fauci's NIAID funding a rejected version of DARPA Defuse. The Telegraph had the best summary of that project:

Have you seen this? Whistleblower saying ‘best bio weapon’ of 4 researched and suggesting deliberately released at Wuhan military games .

A MSM theory is that Western labs (e.g. UNC and UTMB) taught the Chinese how to build SARS2. But it's called tacit knowledge: we know more than we can tell.

https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fpubh.2014.00115/full

In other words: SARS2 isn't Chinese junk (or bioweapon with 99,9% survival rate) but will admit Wuhan military games was a bizarre timeline coincidence.

Another amazing text Jim. HARS-CoV!!

Is there hard evidence UNC/Baric sent or intended to send their enhanced bat coronaviruses or vaccine candidates to Wuhan for testing? I remember Baric stating he never sent his chimeras to WIV. In Defuse, WIV's role was limited to providing samples, wasn't it?

Expand full comment

Yes, you know Baric well: "Let me make it clear that we never sent any of our molecular clones or any chimeric viruses to China"

https://www.technologyreview.com/2021/07/26/1030043/gain-of-function-research-coronavirus-ralph-baric-vaccines/

Will try to cover this complex part in a #6 but will involve Rocky Mountain Lab in Montana, who collaborated with Baric post DARPA Defuse (involved EFB bats which SARS2 loves).

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30572566/

and RML team actually had won DARPA Preempt project and beat Baric & Daszak because $4M cheaper (using contagious vaccines on EFB bats which SARS2 loves).

Thanks Jim. Yes I thought of RML, too. Although I suspect the chimera virus would still have been engineered by Baric while RML would have done animal studies.

This is what Baric said: "Let me make it clear that we never sent any of our molecular clones or any chimeric viruses to China. They developed their own molecular clone, based on WIV1, which is a bat coronavirus. " https://www.technologyreview.com/2021/07/26/1030043/gain-of-function-research-coronavirus-ralph-baric-vaccines/

How does this relate to your hypothesis?

Expand full comment

An interesting statement but it explicitly does not exclude the simplest case: merely sending a "bioinformatics file" (digital sequence) for its on-site biological resurrection, including in vitro synthesis in yeast, as was routinely done @WIV already in the 2010s (e.g., https://doi.org/10.1007/s12250-018-0060-z).

Correction: he later says "We never provided the chimeric virus sequence, clones, or viruses to researchers at the WIV". So that covers that case above.

Yes you are both on it, tried to answer above, but all involved talk in 1/2 truths. We = UNC not RML or another 3rd party animal lab.

Here Baric, Munster, and RML in Montana are trying to infect American lab bats (EFB) with Chinese virus collected by WIV

SARS2 only infects and transmits in EFB bats

Hi Jim,

Thank you for this.

Are you able to publish the email please? It is a very important piece of evidence.

Thanks Clare, didn't plan to do that, but may in a future post on Duke. It's a fairly open rumor online and reflected on his CV.

Please do.

Hi Jim,

Please can you post a copy of the email?

Hi Jim. Any idea why Linfa still seems to be Director of Duke's Emerging Infectious Diseases Program? What happened to his resignation? https://globalhealth.duke.edu/people/wang-linfa

Yeah, that's an old article, but click on the CV link, you will see he stepped down as director August 2020. He gave a 6 month notice.

https://globalhealth.duke.edu/sites/default/files/cv/cv-linfa-wang-220202.pdf

But he's still a full time professor with a couple of $100M project. This live bat research is big dollars.

Thanks Jim. It would be really good to see the Linfa resignation email. As Clare notes, it's an important piece of evidence. Be good to get it out there.
